Douglas Coupland is perhaps best known as the internationally best-selling author of “Generation X: Tales of an Accelerated Culture. “As of late, he has expanded expertise by writing EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN, his first story specifically for the screen. Couplands interest in Generation X first emerged in a 1988 article for Vancouver magazine. He continued the project in a strip created for Vista magazine in Toronto. St. Martin’s Press in New York City asked him to write a guide to Generation X, something on the model of the Yuppie Handbook in he fall of 1989. Instead, Coupland moved to Palm Springs, California, to write his first book, Generation X”. “(Generation X) a completely new, genuine genre of bohemianism.” - San Francisco Chronicle, 1991 Douglas has been credited with conceiving the term and concept of Generation X, but after the publication of “Generation X”, he has repeatedly resisted being called the spokesperson for this generation. “I speak for myself, not for a generation. I never have.” Coupland now lives in Vancouver. His eighteen novels to date are: 1991 Generation X Douglas Coupland’s greatest achievement as a writer is his uncanny insight into what ails our culture. His ability to capture zeitgeist of the moment and provide a new perspective has garnered a popularity that has transcended borders. His books have been translated into 22 languages and sold in 30 countries. Coupland is also regular contributor to The New York Times, New Republic and ArtForum. His on-going design experiments include everything from launching a line of furniture for Pure Design to Absolute Vodka ads for the New Yorker. His journalism ranges from a short story on Dolly the cloned sheep in Time magazine to guest-editing special issues for Vancouver Magazine. By having a hugely successful career as an international writer, Douglas has returned to his first artistic discipline of creating and touring the world with his sculptural collections entitled Spike, Canada House and SuperCity. After completing the script for EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN, Douglas wrote “Mom’s Cookies” for Disney films. And recently, “Generation X” was optioned and “All Families Are Psychotic” was also optioned by Dreamworks. |
